Well, we have landed in the season of “strawberries” and what more exciting than adding these berries in the evening snacks or breakfast for your toddlers !
Kids love these berries and it is also loaded with various health benefits. For fussy eaters, the mothers now have an option of feeding healthy ingredients along with these flavour filled fruit.
I am here to present you 3 different, quick, easy and healthy recipes that can be made using strawberries. I see to it to prepare these when the berries are sour to consume in its raw form ð
- Ragi – Strawberry Pancakes : This extra nutrious and flavourful snack is a win- win for both, mother and the kid. We all know how healthy ragi or finger millet is and including it in our kids meal is surely a power packed snack that last long till the dinner or lunch, if taken for breakfast
Ingredients Required :
- 1 cup of ragi flour
- 7-8 fresh chopped strawberries
- 2 tsp honey
- Milk
- 1 egg beaten
- Drop of vanilla essence (optional)
In a bowl add the above ingredients and mix well till it forms a dropping consistency. Heat the pan, add few drops of ghee and put the batter to form pancakes. Add sufficient strawberries to make the pancakes flavourful and juicy.
Cook the pancakes on both sides till it turns golden. Drizzle a tsp of honey , cut into chunks and let your toddler enjoy this power packed snack. You can see the chopped berries blasting and releasing jam like texture when taken off flame. And believe me, it tastes too juicy and berrilicious !
Note : Serve it fresh and warm to taste best.
2. Strawberry and Oats Porridge : Oats Porridge is one of the most easiest and tasty recipes one can prepare for your little one. Oats is full of fibre and keeps your little one full for longer time. This can be given to babies above 8 months, if their weaning is started.
Ingredients Required :
- 5-6 large fresh strawberries chopped
- 4 tsp of quick oats (Any brand will do)
- 1 cup of milk
- 2 washed, peeled fresh dates
- 1 tsp of honey
- Chopped dry fruit of your choice – Almond/Walnut (Optional)
Mix oats and milk in a bowl and keep it on flame. Once when it starts boiling , add in the chopped strawberries and stir it well. The colour of the oats will start changing into light pink, add in chopped or grated almond and 1 tsp of honey. Let it cook for few minutes till it forms a thick consistency.
Enjoy it warm. This tastes awesome when eaten warm. For babies, this can serve as a complete meal bowl.
3. Strawberry date Smoothie : Who doesn’t love milkshakes ? And when it is strawberry, they are seriously a treat of the season ð
I love my jar of smoothie extra flavour filled , thick and chilled. But the tsp of sugar that goes in die to the sour strawberries is something that worried me the most. Definitely not something that should go in my tummy and when it comes to Zaa, its a strict “NO”.
Though one can use brown sugar, I prefer fresh dates in the smoothie. It gives a creamy texture along that sweetness that is a must in the smoothie.
Ingredients Required :
- A bowl full of fresh strawberries . Cut them into halves.
- 4-5 washed, peeled and de-seeded fresh dates
- 1 glass of milk
- 1 tsp of sugar (only if the strawberries are too sour. You can always taste and add if required)
- 2 Almonds
Put the above ingredients in a grinder/mixer/juicer and blend the ingredients well. Add 1/4th of milk in the first round and gradually keep adding the rest of the milk. This makes the smoothie frothy and creamier.
The almonds add up a creamy texture and flavour and adds in the portion of protein required for your little one. On the contrary it keeps the full and satisfied for the entire evening ð
Aren’t all 3 recipes simple, quick and easy to make ? I’m sure your kid will love these and definitely is a must try this season. I say this because all three recipes are approved by Zaa and me ð We love these and will prepare this again , super-soon.
Let me know if your kid loved it too or if you find this recipe useful ð It will definitely motivate me to write often.
Meet you soon with another blog of mine soon. Please keep and eye here ð Sayonara !
